THE #1 EXCUSE I HEAR FOR NOT STEPPING INTO YOUR DREAM LIFE
Have you ever wanted to know the secret between those women who you really admire for their clarity and courage and where you might be right now, still waiting for yours to turn up in the mail?
It’s one word: ACTION.
So many women I start to work with are waiting for this courage and stay bound by their fears. Fears of rejection…of not being good enough, smart enough, resourceful enough, pretty enough.
But here’s the cold truth.
Clarity comes through movement, through action. Lack of clarity is lack of action!
Courage also turns up as you take action. Lack of courage is also lack of action.
And ironically, the more you start taking action and by way of that choosing the doorway called uncertainty, the more certainty you have! And that’s because the ONLY thing we can control in this life is, ironically, ourselves!
It’s this control of themselves that these women have learnt to practice too.
And within ourselves, there are only three things that we can, and ever should, control, and these are:
1/ What you focus on
2/ What you make it mean
3/ What you’re going to do about it
Can you see how that works?
Okay – so what’s the super huge excuse then for not taking action, I hear you say.
It’s this – I’m not ready.
‘I’m not ready to take action. I’m not ready for my next move. And in fact, even if I was ready, I’m not clear on what my next move needs to be!!!”
Sounds familiar? It did for me for a long time too. And my results were downright average too. I too was stuck in fear and inability to control the only thing that I could, myself.
Wanna know the truth? You will never feel ready to do what you really want to do. Because standing up for yourself and going for something as big as the life you’ve always wanted is outside of your comfort zone (or else you would be living it already!).
I left the security blanket of my corporate paycheck to immerse myself into creating my dream business and life in personal coaching. I invested in a 6-month weekly personal coaching program for myself before I “could” afford it. (and let me let you in for a secret, personal coaching is not meant to be a economical, its meant to stretch you). While others were networking with a full brand identity to their advantage, I walked into business groups with a simple self-designed business card, a big smile and desire to serve from the heart. And as you can tell, even my website only came about much later.
What I did do, is I took action, I stepped into the unknown and knocked on doors that I didn’t know what was on the other side….I found new doors where before there were only walls.
And it worked – I had clients almost immediately while others were complaining about the difficulties of being a solopreneur.
Though I was learning (shit loads and via many, many “mistakes”) as I went along, I TOOK the courage to just start, to just take one small step at a time. I TOOK a what felt like a giant leap of faith and practiced saying yes first, then figuring out the how.
Today, I continue to incorporate starting before I’m ready into my every day life. I’m continually educating myself and use new techniques in my coaching sessions immediately. I pass on all the cool stuff that I learn to my one-on-one clients and we both gain.
I’ve heard that a successful person makes a decision to be successful and eliminates all other options from the table, and nothing could be truer! When you come from that mentality, trust that the rest will fall into place.
I know from my personal experience that it’s not easy to do because nothing really worth having in life comes easy. They key is to take one small step, right now.
